Sunset over Caneel

This sweet and tart tasty drink was a cocktail that I had at Zozo’s Restaurant in Caneel Bay in St. John. Although I know the ingredients I didn’t ask for their recipe because I wanted to make my own version. It has a distinctly different taste likely due to the Hendrick’s Gin that I used, but it is just as tasty as their version. The color reminds me of the orange in a sunset so that and the location are the inspiration for the name. Feel free to use another gin if you don’t have Hendrick’s at home. I think both Bombay Sapphire and Tanguerey would lend themselves to this as well.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Hendrick’s Gin 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice 3/4 oz Aperol 3/4 oz Elderflower liquor Garnish with a slice of orange or a dehydrated orange

Combine all 4 ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until well combined and cold. Strain into a martini or coup glass. They garnished this cocktail with a dehydrated orange but a thin slice of orange would be beautiful as well. Check out some recipes on-line to dehydrate your own oranges. The pulp of different types of oranges is a different color so drying a few different types of oranges is a really great way to “dress up” your cocktail.
